Unexpected Mercy Featured on Junk online
"What's this?", you may ask. Well, from now, every Friday. we'll be profiling some amazing bands from around the region, and guess what, YOUR band could be one of those profiled too! If you want to be profiled on our Getting To Know column send your profile and relevant links (YouTube, Facebook, etc) to scott@freeform.com.my. But for our first edition of Getting To Know, we shine the spotlight on Unexpected Mercy, one of KL's up-and-coming metalcore acts!
The Lowdown
Unexpected Mercy is Joey Lai on vocals, Joshua Ericsson on the bass, Russell Especkerman on lead guitar, Daniel Tan on the synths, and the brother-sister duo of Ian and Vivian Ng on guitar and drums respectively. Yes, their drummer is a girl, and a pretty kickass drummer at that! Formed in 2007, Unexpected Mercy went through a series of line-up changes before settling down to create death metal-fused metalcore in the vein of a really heavy The Devil Wears Prada. They've so far recorded two blistering songs with Nash from The Band Shop, and the tracks, 'The Weakness Within' and 'Shining Forth' are shining examples of well-written Christian metalcore that's never explicit about their beliefs but still conveys a clear message on what this band is about.
It's something of a rarity to see a metal band composed of non-Malays in the local scene, but nonetheless it's more proof that music crosses all boundaries as Unexpected Mercy have begun making a name for themselves by playing at shows like the Wolles Fest, and more recently the Tribute To Jesper Stromblad. They'll also be opening the next edition of the Keramat Durjana Festival in 2011, which will see them alongside the whos-who of Malaysian metal, like Black Territory, Massacre Conspiracy, Heterodox, Thy Regiment, and much, much more.
So to get to know more about these guys, we sat down with Joey and Ian over lunch one sunny day to give us a better picture on who Unexpected Mercy are.

I lived too fast and I loved too much and I’ll die too young, but I chose this cup that I drank from.
Knew what I was getting into.
But I couldn’t let out what I had to keep in.
I’m ashamed of myself and unspeakable sins that I’ve committed and…
I’ve made mistakes but I’ll find my way.
No explanation for
the things I’ve failed at before.
They can’t hold my hand.
It just hurts to be a man.
Through the tortures of the damned.
Of the damned.
If I only had an axe I’d sever the ties I’ve made with the world.
Maybe I can be a stranger in a strange place If I start now, maybe I can be saved.
If I only had a mask
I’d cover these bleeding eyes.
They’re bloodshot now but they’ll be black by dawn.
If I wake up now I can be pure again.
I’ve made mistakes but I’ll find my way.
No explanation for the things I’ve failed at before.
They can’t hold my hand.
It just hurts to be a man.
Through the tortures of the damned.
Look at me now, I’m on the tracks with my back towards the last train leaving town (x4).
I’ve made mistakes but I’ll find my way.
No explanation for the things I’ve failed at before.
They can’t hold my hand.
It just hurts to be a man. (Through the tortures of the damned.)
I’ve made mistakes but I’ll find my way.
No explanation for the things I’ve failed at before.
They can’t hold my hand.
It just hurts to be a man. Through the tortures of the damned.
Of the Damned!!!

Paul Grey R.I.P
Slipknot Bassist aka "Pig" or #2 has died..
On May 24, 2010, The Des Moines Register reported that Gray had been found dead in a room at the Towneplace Suites hotel in Urbandale, Iowa at about 10:50 local time .He is survived by his wife Brenna who was expecting their first child at the time of his death. An initial autopsy determined that no foul play or trauma was involved, but could not establish the cause of death. The Polk County medical examiner is currently awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
The next day, May 25 2010, The Des Moines Register announced that, according to a 911 tape obtained by WOI-TV, bottles of pills and a hypodermic needle were found next to the body of Gray in his hotel room.[5] On the same day, the band held a formal press conference in Des Moines, Iowa. They did not take any questions from the media. The band and Gray's wife paid tribute to him.
"He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He's going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him."
Ronny James Dio R.I.P

The Holy Diver of Metal!!!! has died of stomach Cancer...
Wendy Dio's Wife said on Dio's official site:
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."
Lyrics to ponder upon..hahaha
Hospital of immortality, butcher their patients bloody red
Taken to a dark room, fear of impending doom
The doctor straps you down, with an evil grin
Grabs his rusty blade, ripping through flesh and vein
He tortures his patients through evil means
You can't try to fight them, first they change your brain
beyond the realm of evil, their means are insane
Mutilated beyond belief, but still kept alive
Pathologist of death gouging out your eyes
Guts and blood, bones are broken
As they eat your pancreas
Human liver, for their diner
Or maybe soup with eyes
Cause of death, still unknown
Gnawing meat, from your bones
Bone saw binding in your skull
Brains are oozing a human stump
Needles injected, through your eyes
Puiling off flesh, skinned alive
Killing for free in blood they will trust, and they must never forsake
feeding on blood that brought them abound, and they must kill tonight
Genocide, suicide, screaming cries, in hell you will die
Lying dormant not dead
Hospital of immortality, butcher their patients bloody red
Taken to a dark room, fear of impending doom
The doctor straps you down, with an evil grin
Grabs his rusty blade, ripping through flesh and vein
He tortures his patients through evil means

In Flames!!!!
in the vein of all bloggers who seem to feel the need to tell the whole world
(even if anyone hardly checks it) their life..
i guess i should hav done this post a long time ago..but heck its never to late eh??
So here's my tribute to my Favorite band
"In 1990, over in Gothenburg, Sweden, the stars aligned or some shit. Something extraterrestrial clicked, because there is no other scientific evidence for how In Flames could have been born without some sort of divine interference. Jesper Stromblad, of Ceremonial Oath, decided that he was sick of not being in a better band, so he created one. In 1993, he recruited Glenn Ljungstom (guitar), and Johan Larsson (bass) to form the first official
In Flames line-up, and together they recorded a 3-song demo which they sent in to Wrong Again Records.
That same year, In Flames wrote and recorded their first full album, "Lunar Strain". Because they hadn't found a vocalist yet, Jesper asked Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquillity to provide session vocals. Lunar Strain was released in 1994. Later that year, they released their first EP, "Subterranean". Subterranean was such a success that it caught the eye of Nuclear Blast records, who then gave In Flames a record deal. Now that In Flames' popularity was growing, they realized session vocals would no longer cut it, and that drums sound pretty nice. That's right, a professional metal band took over a year to realize that they might need a singer and drummer.
In response to this brilliant epiphany, they hired Bjorn Gelotte (drums) and Anders Friden (vocals). This 5-man lineup produced The Jester Race in 1995, and Whoracle in 1997. However, after the release of Whoracle, guitarist Glenn Ljungstrom and bassist Johan Larsson announced they were leaving the band. Niklas Engelin and Peter Iwers were hired to replace them, and this new In Flames produced the album "Colony" in 1999. Since then, In Flames has released five new albums and toured extensively, and, as of 2008, sold over two million records worldwide. They are the only item in existence to have been In Flames consistently for over 16 years, without dying."

Layers
Hidden In layers of make up,
I see the sorrow that you hide.
Why wont you stop this masquerade,
Is it worth it at all?
You’re better than this and I know you are,
I care to much to watch you drown,
Why won’t you help yourself,
Is the suffering worth the pain.
You know the answer yet you just complain ,
Without a move you will never gain,
Stop pretending that everything is fine,
You know you’ve got to make a move.
Wipe the layers from your eyes ,
Let those dark shades fall from your face,
And show the world you’re not a fake.
Hide no more lies my dear it’s time to shine.
Nowhere
Where there's only you and me,
Where faith takes control,
And guides our path to now & here.
It’s a place of calm where all your worries will be gone,
Lay your burdens down and walk with the wind,
Feel the freedom in the air,
As it takes you to nowhere.
Trust me and take my hand,
Lets walk in the streams of hidden wonders,
Lets dance in the calm of this mystic woods,
don't give up on life.
lets take a chance,
lets make this one last,
i hope you see my smile,
please trust me when i say..
lets fly to nowhere,
Where there's only you and me,
Where faith takes control,
And guides our path to now & here.

It's empty tonight
And I'm all alone
Get me through this one
Do you notice I'm gone?
Where do you run to so far away?
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you so
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you so
I'm writing again, these letters to you
On much I know
But I'm not sleeping and you're not here
The thought stops my heart
Do you notice I'm gone?
Where do you run to so far away?
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you so
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you so
No more looking
I've found her
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you so
I want you to know that I miss you, I miss you
I've gone away
Letters to you By Finch
